WHANGAREI CAMPAIGN Another effort to secure £250 for its advertising campaign is to be made by the North Auckland Progress League. At a meeting of the executive last evening the correspondence showed that the K;:i ikohe, Rawene, Kawakawa and Russell Town Boards had forwarded their contributions assessed on a capital value basis. Whangaroa, Otamatea, Hikurangi and Kaitaia had agreed to subscribe on condition that all other bodies also contributed. Tire Whangarei Borough Council had deferred consideration until later in the year, Dargaville Borough Council had agreed to pay a pro rata share, but intimated that it did not have the assessed amount of £22 to devote to the scheme. Hobson County Council expressed sympathy with the league’s objects, but regretted it had no funds for such a purpose, and the Whangarei County Council replied in similar terms. 14 was pointed out during the dis-

cussion that, if the support of tin two last-named bodies could be ob tained, the money would probably b< raised without difficulty. Mr. F. N. Bartram, M.P. for Gre: Lynn, addressed a meeting of Labou: supporters in Whangarei last evening The selected candidate for Marsden I Mr. Chetham, was introduced to tin I audience and spoke briefly on his cani didature. A vote of thanks to Mr I Bartram and of confidence in the Labour Party was carried on the motion of Mr. W. O’Leary.
