The Taumarunui Borough Council has appointed Mr. W. H. Honour, of , Hastings, to be borough inspector. Until he can take up his duties, Mr. H. E. Tomlinson was temporarily appointed to the position, and the police have been asked to co-operate with the council in controlling traffic. At a gejieral meeting of the Matiere branch of the Country Political League, over which Mr. W. iSandison presided, it was resolved to request the league executive to arrange for a candidate to contest the Waimarino electorate in the party’s interests. The half-yearly installation of officers of the Loyal Hearts of Oak Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., Taumarunui, was fully attended, Sister Williamson being the installing officer. The new officers are: 1.P.N.G., Bro. Spence, P.G.; N.G.. Bro. Meads; V.G., Bro, A, Friedrickson; R.S.N.S., Sister Fisher; L.S.N.G., Sister Cox; R.S.V.G., Sister R Leydon; L.S.V.G., Sister E. Leydon; Guardian, Sister Dawson; Warden, Bro. Dawson, junr.; Organist, Sister R. Leydon; E.S., Bro. E. Bastion, P.G., F.S.. Bro. J. J, Hackshaw, P.G., Treasurer, Bro. L. Fisher, P.G, At Burnside,” the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Rutherford, Lower Retaruke, the King Country Gun Club held another successful shoot, at which, though heavy wind interfered with the marksmen, fairly good shooting was registered. Results: W'aldeg.ravc Memorial Medal, 10 birds: L. Persens, 4 breaks, 1;* F. McFadyen, 3 breaks, 2. The wind was gale-like at the time, and good scoring was impossible. No. 1 Sweepstake, 6 birds: F. McFadyen, 4,1; D. Tod, 3. 2. No, 2 Sweepstake, 6 birds: F. McFadyen, 4, 1; G. Geary, 3,2. No. 3 Sweeps LaKe, 4 birds: F. McFadyen, 3,1; T. Rutherford, 2,2. Ladies’ Match. —Mrs. J. Waldegrave and Miss E. Lacey tied for first place, and Mrs. Lund registered second. A special prize presented by the club for non-members was won by Mrs. Frampton. During the meeting the host and hostess provided a pleasant afternoon tf£L, to which the guests did full justice ’ The Auckland Acclimatisation Society has advised the Taumarunui Rod and Gun Club that in future it intends to liberate pheasants only on large blocks of land where the birds can bo protected for at least two years. Th® club was further advised that
the society intends to fully invtftigat* the alleged shooting of a two-pointer stag in the Taumarunui district. Tn club has decided to ask the parent body to consider the liberation oi yearling trout instead of fry in tos club’s district. Mr. W. G. Ward having resigned from the conjmittee, MrW. S. Walmsley has been appointee to fill the vacancy.
