OTAHUHU INTERESTS

The president. Padre C. B. W. Seton, presided over a good attendance of members at the third annual general meeting of the Otahuliu Returned Soldiers’ Social Club on Wednesday. The annual report gave a comprehensive summary of the* year’s activities, mentioning that sixteen cases of distress had been assisted, and the sum of £lO had been donated to the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Club. The balance-sheet, which was adopted, showed the finances of the club to be in a very satisfactory state, the credit balance in the Poppy Fund amounted to £76 8s lOd, and the general account £6 7s lid. The liabilities were set down as nil. The secretary reported that the membership had increased from 23 in the first year to the present roll total of 123. It was decided to tender a social evening to the ladies who had assisted in disposing of poppies on Poppy Bay. The election of officers resulted: President, Padre C. B. W. Seton; vicepresident, Mr. H. Fearnley; secretary, Mr. A. J. Paterson; treasurer, Mr. K. Todd; general committee, Messrs. H. Bickey, K. Lippiatt, W. H. Haslip, T. Bay, G. V. Pearce, A. T. McLaren; investigation committee, Sergeant-Ma-jor A. J. Brant, Messrs. A. Heskett, H. Lovell; hon. auditor, Mr. R. W. F. Wood. There was a good attendance of members and friends at the meeting of the Otahuhu Orphans’ Club on Thursday evening. Bro. J. W. Sanderson, vice-president, presided, and extended a welcome to Police*-Sergeant Lambert, who has lately been transferred to the charge of the Otahuhu district. Among the visitors were a number of the late employees of the Petone Railway Workshops, who have lately been transferred to the Otahuhu shops. A number of items were given by the club’s orchestra, which were well received. The following performers also contributed: Bros. Bale. A. Colquhoun, Harry Samuel. S. Holliday, Ernest Powell, Peter J. Bree.
