THAMES HARBOUR BOARD
NORTH STATION TO BE CLOSED The intention of the Railway Department to close the Thames North station was referred to at the Harbour Board meeting, when the department asked for the board’s views on the matter. Under the proposed alteration trains will run to and from the north station, and no difficulty was anticipated in working the Harbour Board’s private siding. The board replied that it was not antagonistic to the alteration in the train service so long as facilities for its cargo were forthcoming. Mr. J. W. Danby was re-elected unopposed to the position of chairman of the Thames Harbour Board. Eulogistic reference was made by Messrs. H. Lowe, W. Brown, Waihi, S. Loughlin, C. S. Donovan and F. W. Hetherington as to the capable and energetic manner in which Mr. Danby had carried out his duties. Mr. Danby thanked members for the honour of re-election. It was the board’s desire to increase the chairman’s honorarium, and a motion was passed to that effect, but Mr. Danby’s request that there be no increase was agreed to.
