Mr. D. Grant was re-elected chairman at the annual meeting of the Tauranga Harbour Board yesterday. Messrs. Grant, Green, Merrilees, Mends and Lalley were appointed an executive and finance committee. With reference to the outlet from the borough septic tank into the harbour, it was decided to hold a conference with an officer from the Health Department. Residents at The Mount petitioned against the Public Works Department closing the railway wharf at The Mount. The board decided to interview the district engineer regarding it. Two hundred acres of the board’s reserves at Matakana Island are to be planted. * * * There was a very good attendance of members and visitors at the opening evening of the winter session of the Tauranga Literary and Social Club. Dr. Sweet gave a lecture on The Scheme Underlying the Creation of Life.” It was given in an interesting manner, and was both instructive and entertaining. A number of members took part in a discussion on the lecture. The club has started its second year with a large membership, and every prospect of a successful session.
