Obituary

MR. B. R. CROAD The death is announced of Mr. B. R. Croad, a well-known settler of Ballance. He has been chairman of the dairy company in that settlement and was connected with other institutions there. He entered the public hospital a few days ago and underwent an operation. He leaves a widow and young family. CAPTAIN R. ADAMSON Captain Robert Adamson, who died at the Auckland Hospital on Saturday at the age of 76, was born in Coleraine, Ireland. After serving his apprenticeship, he was with the Union Castle Line and at the age of 30 secured his master’s certificate. After being engaged in the mail run from London to Capetown for some time Captain Adamson was in command of the Carnavon Castle running from London to Melbourne. When steam power came into use he secured his master’s certificate under the altered conditions and served the Castle Dine for 20 years. Some years ago he was with the Union Company for a time, but his service was principally in Eastern and American waters. While in the East about a year ago Captain Adamson became ill and came to Auckland to recuperate before returning to his home in Portland. Oregon. in the United States. His wife died about a year ago and he is survived by a family of six. His only relative in New Zealand is his brother, Captain John Adamson, of 22 Hamilton Road. Herne Bay.
