NEW WHALING LAUNCH
FAST TRIP TO RUSSELL The new whaling launch Ngaire designed and built by Mr. C. J. Collings, of Auckland, for hunting off the Northern whaling stations at Whangamumu, was run from the Waitemata to Russell on Sunday. Leaving St. Mary’s Bay at 8 a.m. she covered the distance in the short time of nine hours, although the launch was run at a third of her possible speed. Outside Kawau she ran into a hard south-east breeze and met a heavy swell which necessitated a reduction in speed to 10 knots. At times she threw the waves to a height of 15ft. Mr. Collings states that both the craft and the engine behaved splendidly.
