THOUSAND RUNS IN MAY
HALLOWS’S FINE FEAT (United P.A. —By Telegraph-—Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Reed. noon. . LONDON, Friday. The Lancashire county cricketer, Hallows, yesterday completed 1,000 runs in May, a feat hitherto accomplished only by W. G. Grace and Hammond, both Gloucestersire county players. Speaking at a presentation to Hallows in recognition of his 1,000 runs, A. E. R. Gilligan said: “You are sure to make many more runs, not only at Manchester, but also abroad. I, as a member of the selection committee, cannot say more.” Hallows is regarded as an ideal batsman for Australia. He is a patient left-hander, merciless to loose ones.
The late Dr. W. G. Grace, between May 9 and May 30, 1895, scored 1,016 runs in 10 innings, and had an average of 112.88. Hammond scored 1,028 runs between May 7 and May 28 in 13 innings, and had an average of 97.63. W. G. Grace was nearly 47 years old when he performed this feat.
