VORONOFF IN ENGLAND

TALKS OF GLAND-GRAFTING TREATMENT OF CHILDREN (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) LONDON, Friday. Professor Varonoff, who is on a short visit to England, says simple monkey gland operations are at present being carried out by other surgeons, who have learned his methods. He fears that English surgeons will be handicapped owing to the antivivisection laws. Monkeys are not allowed to be operated upon without a licence, although the monkey still continues to have its normal length of life after the operation. The only gland operation permissible in England is to take one from a person who has died suddenly, and such must be used within six hours. Professor Voronoff says it is impossible for a person to develop instincts, physical or mental, from the animal from which the gland has been taken. The ideal age for the operation is between 10 and 12 years. Children so treated show a greater force of energy and intelligence when they reach adult age. Unless a man is treated within four or five years of his decline he does not fully renew his vitality.
