STAGE STARS
SEVERAL ON AORANGI BOXERS AND WRESTLERS TOO The amusement world was well represented on the Aorangi when she arrived from Vancouver yesterday afternoon. Stage stars, both for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., and the Fuller firm, studded the decks, and there was a fine array of boxers and wrestlers. Mr. W: liam Heughan, the Scottish singer, was a prominent figure in kilts. Mr. Sam Wren is on his way to Australia to play under the J.C.W. banner in a new play, “The Patsy.” He is a descendant of the famous architect, Sir Christopher Wren, and immensely proud of the fact. He is a bright young man who does not mind confessing that he has already played in seven failures in New York this season, where failures have been the order of the day. One of his most interesting engagements was with Max Rhinehardt’s company in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” He was the only America man in the cast. Mr. A. S. Byron is another actor who is on his way to Sydney to play in “The Patsy.’ Miss Burnley, a slierht little lady, is to play the lead in the Fuller production, “Good News.’ She has been on the stage only a few years. Her success in winning a scholarship for singing sent her thoughts toward a stage life. Miss Burnley played the name part in “No, No, Nanette” through the States. She has appeared in motion pictures with Norma Talmadge and has understudied the Duncan Sisters. Others in the “Good News” Company are Mr. A. R. Bell, the comedian, who has played in vaudeville, stock and burlesque through the States. Before leaving he had appeared in “Lister Lester,” “Some Girl” and “My Girl.” Mrs. Bell, also an actress, is with the company, but is too occupied with her baby to take a part. Others are Miss Viola Savoy, the comedienne, Mr. Jack Smith, Mr. Hal Murray, Miss Edith Murray, who has something new in dances, Miss Regal and Miss Merritt. Boxing and wrestling was well represented. Mr. R. Lean, manager of the Melbourne Stadium, who has been arranging for overseas attractions, is a through passenger. Mr. Tex Sackheld is in charge of a party of four boxers for Stadiums, Ltd. There are three wrestlers, Messrs. Martin Ludecke, Robert Kruse and Jack Winrow.
