GRAFT CHARGES DENIED
CANADIAN IMMIGRATION MINISTER’S EVIDENCE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association) Kecd. 9 a.m. OTTAWA, Friday. Mr, W. J. Egan, Deputy-Minister of Immigration, refuted the graft charges in connection with immigration perBefore the commission of inquiry ne stated that 3,061 permits were issued, and 2,900 were sponsored by members of Parliament. None did so for gain. Not one officer of the department received one cent. The department had discovered attempts to use bogus permits. Not one passed the officers. The matter was placed in the hands of the mounted police. One man was apprehended. He received complaints in two instances where money was taken for permits.
