George Gordon, aged 30, has been convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of an elderly couple, storekeepers, near Bairnsdale, on February lt>. They were named Richard and Catherine Clements. The pair were foully murdered during the right, their heads being battered. Gordon lived in the neighbourhood. His clothes were bloodstained, and his finger-prints were on the chest of drawers, giving the chief clues to his arrest and conviction. Gordon's defence was an alibi.
