THAMES GIRLS’ CLUB

The members of the Thames Girls’ Club (inc.) will hold an at home on Wednesday evening, May 23, at 8 p.m., in the Druids’ Hall, North Street, Newton. Dancing cards and musical items have been arranged for the evening, and an excellent orchestra has been engaged. For an excellent substitute for cream beat together one tablespoon each of butter, sugar and boiling water. Do not beat very long or it will curdle. Try boiling instead of simmering corned beef. Put it into lukewarm water and bring to the boil; allow 20 minutes to the pound of beef. To tempt an invalid child’s appetite, make a jelly with one pint of hot (not boiling) milk and a packet of best quality port wine jelly crystals.
