BOATS AND THEIR OWNERS
The big’ launch Viveen, belonging to Mr. Rapley, has been put up on the hard at Wild's yard, Stanley Bay. She is kept company by the keeler Mizpah and a couple of others. ... The double-ended keel boat Pirate, which went ashore at Narrow Neck during the easterly blow a couple of weeks back, is being put in order by Mr. C. Wild, at Stanley Bay. She was built by Mr. R. Shakespeare, of East Coast fame, many years ago and has seen some rough times in her history. Rakoa, recently purchased by Logans Junr., was taken out of the water at Stanley Bay last week. Her spars are to be lightened and she is to be ready for next season.
Valeria, which sacrificed her “stick” in the Lipton Cup event, has had it replaced. When there was some talk of re-sailing the race the owners of the boat commissioned Mr. A. Logan to replace the mast in two days. He managed to get it ready, except for the varnish, in one day. However, the resail did not eventuate and the new mast was fitted last Saturday afternoon.
