OTAHUHU BOROUGH COUNCIL

FIRE INSPECTOR’S REPORT The Fire Inspector’s annual report submitted to the Otahuhu Borough Council last evening, drew attention to the bad state of the fire escapes at the Orpheus Theatre and the accumulation of rubbish around the Gaiety Theatre. It was also reported that holes in the operating box had been stuffed with paper. Alterations to the electricwiring throughout the theatre were also recommended. Councillor Pearce remarked that improvements would cost the owner a lot of money, the Mayor replying that they must protect the public. The inspector’s report was adopted. On the recommendation of the same inspector, it was decided to lay larger water mains to King’s College, to assist in combating fire. The council decided to support the application of the Passenger Transport Company to the licensing board for alteration in their route, and change of time-table, on condition that the fares are not raised. Notification was received of the formation of a branch of St. John’s Ambulance in Otahuhu. It was decided to commend the organisers, and promise the full support of the council. The District Telegraph Engineer wrote saying it was not proposed to erect public telephone call boxes In the borough.
