WINTER COATS FUR AS TRIMMING Judging by the autumn dress shows, winter coats are not going to be surprisingly different from those worn last year. The wrapped-over coat with uneven hem hanging in draped folds is a pleasant addition to the wardrobe of the woman who can afford several coats. A wiser choice for those who are more restricted in making a slection would be one of the straight-cut coats, collared and cuffed with fur. These are not "new,” but they are still as smart as anything can be and as serviceable. A travelling coat seen at a recent dress show was of clouded check woollen material in quiet blue, green and grey, and had a long pointed cape at the back. Velvet coats are very becoming. One of brown velvet, trimmed with clipped beige fur. showed matching crepe de chine, arranged in a border alongside the fur, the crepe de chine appearing between the neckline and the fur collar. A maroon velvet coat, luxuriouslv trimmed with lynx, was worn with an unsophisticated, cap-like little hat in velvet to match. AN ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Joice. eldest daughter of Air. and Airs. H. E. Philip, of Ohiiupo Road. Te Awamutu. to Freder'ck. «*nlv on of tinlate Mr. and Airs. G. AY.
