AT DIXIELAND

There were more than 350 dancers at Dixieland on Saturday evening, when the popular seaside cabaret was the scene of one of its characteristically gay dances. Clyde Howdey and his international band added to their laurels by playing an even more than usually delightful selection of the newest numbers. Among those present were: Airs. H. The meeting' for the purpose was conducted 'iv Miss Stops. The speaker stated that briefly the purpose of women’s institutes were for liome-making'. cooperation. and citizenship. Their motto is "For Home and Country," and their slogan, "If you know of a good thing, pass it on.” The following officers were elected.' President, Mrs. W. J. Towers; vice-president, Mrs. J. AV. Silcock; secretary, Miss J. A. Thorp.

ORANGE BLOSSOMS SHAW—DEAN St. Mary's Church. New Plymouth, was the venue for a pretty evening wedding recently, when Helen, elder daughter of Mrs. J. R. Rimmer, of Devon Street West, New Plymouth, and the late Mr. T. Dean (Byrn, Lancashire), was married to Clayton Godfrey, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Shaw, Vogeltown, New Plymouth. Archdeacon F. G. Evans performed the ceremony. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her stepfather, was daintily attired in ivory crepe satin, draped with white and silver lace, tier veil, worn as a train, was of embroidered tule, and her coronet was caught at the sides with small sprays of orange blossoms. A bouquet of ivory white roses and chrysanthemums completed an attractive toilette. The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Margaret Dean, as chief bridesmaid, and Miss Nona Shaw, the sister of the bridegroom. Both were becomingly dressed in pink and silver lace, and carried bouquets of pink hothouse flowers, tied with silver streamers. They wore pearls, the gifts of the bridegroom. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr. Clive Shaw, the bridegroom’s brother, and Mr. P. Fisher acted as groomsman. LANIBEE—LAIDLAW A pretty wedding was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church, Te Awamutu, on Thursday evening, when Miss Bessie Agnes Laidlaw', daughter of Mr. James S. Laidlaw, of Pakura Street, Te Awamutu, was married to Mr. Wm. Lanibee, of Taranaki. The Rev. W. Butterworth officiated. The bride wore a dainty frock of rose pink sequined georgette, and carried a bouquet of chrysanthemums and dahlias. Miss Gretta Harman, of Hamilton, was bridesmaid, and wore a dress of coffee lace over lavender crepe de chine, and carried a bouquet of autumn tints. Mr. David Laidlaw, brother of the bride, was best man. After the ceremony the bridal party adjourned to the parish hall, where supper was served, and the usual toasts honoured. PLUNKET SOCIETY RAETIHI BRANCH At a committee meeting of the Kaetilii Plunket Society, Mrs. Sigley presided. The nurse’s report stated that there were 158 cases in the district. Several members of the committee were appointed to canvass for annual subscriptions, which are now due.
