HOUSEWIVES’ CRY
“RETURN OUR FOURPENCES” BUDGET AND PARAFFIN (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, Wednesday. Housewives are everywhere demanding the return of the fourpences paid last week above the usual price of paraffin oil. The local dealers have promised a refund in cash or goods when they have heard from their suppliers. The oil companies have issued a statement to the effect that they did not control the retail price, but were arranging to refund the tax to the wholesale buyers. Probably therefore it will be some time before the 3,600,000 fourpences paid will reach their original owners.
