CENSURE MOTION LOST
COMMONWEALTH LINE SALE (United P.A. —By Telegraph — Copyright) Reed. Noon. CANBERRA, To-day. The censure motion of Mr. J. H. Scullin, leader of the Federal Labour Party, condemning the Prime Minister, Mr. Stanley Bruce, and the Government for selling the Commonwealth ships, was defeated by 36 votes to 21. Dr. Earle Page, Federal Treasurer, declared that the seamen had ruined the opportunities to make the vessels successful. There were 27 waterside disputes in 1927, involving 27,620 men, representing a loss f of 161,580 working days, and £128,900 in wages. The management of the AberdeenCommonwealth Line has appointed Mr. Eva to be manager for Australia. The captain, officers and engineers of the Largs Bay are now being signed on for the next round trip under the new owners. The majority of the crew will be repatriated, together with the crew of the Moreton Bay.
