He appeared to be in excellent condition. He laughed at Gene Tunney for recently giving a Shakespeare lecture at Yale University, and said: “I never read any Shakespeare. Shakespeare is a dead one, and a fighter ought to fight instead of taking up literature.” Heeney, who declared that he was in the pink of condition, immediately started training.
