EFFICIENT LIFE-SAVERS

SUCCESS OF GIRLS’ CLUB PROUD RECORD OF AWARDS A proud record is held by the Belmont Presbyterian Girls’ Efficiency Club, the members of which comprise a band of enthusiasts who set out to qualify fo.r the certificates and awards of the Royal Life-Saving Society. The title of the organisation is shown to have been well selected, for recently the girls completed tests resulting in one elementary and eight proficiency certificates, seven bronze medallions, three honorary instructors’ certificates and seven awards of merit being gained. The award of merit is a much-coveted silver medal. The operations of the club must inspire th© people of the Narrow Neck and Belmont districts with confidence during the bathing season, and parents will be gratified that a measure of security is afforded their children on the beaches.

The awards are to be presented tomorrow evening, when Dr. T. H. Pettit, president of the Royal LifeSaving Society, will preside at a function in the Belmont Presbyterian Hall. Mr. Malcolm Champion, official examiner, will speak on life-saving. The success of the Efficiency Club is due largely to the efforts of Mrs. S. J. Atkins, who performed the organisation work and trained the students. Mrs. Atkins qualified for her lifesaving awards in Scotland.
