NOT A MENTAL PATIENT
SYDNEY JUROR EXPLAINS
By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. The Sydney juror who was alleged to be a mental patient explains that the allegation is untrue. For the past two months he has been a voluntary patient at one of the Repatriation Department's cottages, which is administered by the Callan Park Asylum authorities, suffering from insomnia, the result of war service. He has always been at perfect liberty to leave whenever he likes, and has never been the inmate of any mental asylum.—A. and N.Z.
A Sydney cablegram received yesterday read: The Minister of Justice is holding an inquiry into an allegation that a mental patient from the Callan Park Asylum sat on the jury in a murder trial, at which the accused was acquitted, and that the patient, after sitting on the jury, returned to the asylum. It is alleged that he stated he would never convict a man for killing his wife.
