ETCHINGS EXHIBITION
FOR AUCKLAND ART LOVERS The exhibition of etchings which Mr. Ernest Finlay, 8.A., is presenting to Auckland art lovers on the fourth floor of Messrs. Milne and Choyce’s business premises, on behalf of the Australian Society of Painter-Etchers, will re-open today after the Easter holidays. The etchings on view include notable examples of the work of Sydney Long, A.R.E., Thomas Friedensen, Herbert Gallop, Bruce Robertson, Sydney Ure Smith, John C. Goodchild, and other leading exponents of the Australian School. Mr. Finlay has also in his collection several etchings from the needle of Trevor Lloyd, the Auckland etcher. It would indeed be regrettable if the gems from this collection were permitted to go into the hands of Southern collectors. Etchings are within the means of most lovers of art, whereas other artistic mediums very often are not. The Australians are well to the forefront as etchers, and in the Commonwealth a standard has been achieved which has evoked admiration from the art centres of the Old World. Sydney Long, for instance, is a constant Royal Academy contributor, and also exhibits in France and elsewhere. Aucklanders will only have a few more days in which to view the etchings. —5
