Speed Kings Meet at Addington
HIGH-CLASS PROGRAMME FINE SPORT PROMISED For a considerable number of years the Easter meeting of the Metropolitan Trotting Club, which takes place at Addington, has proved one of the most successful fixtures staged by that body, and judging by the splendid acceptances received for the first day’s card, which will be presented on Saturday, the 1928 carnival will prove no exception to the rule. Class is always well represented at my meeting promoted by this big organisation, and the card which ' monies up for decision this week-end shows that again quality is a strong :*£ture of the contestants. The fields ire fairly substantial, and some highdass contests will be witnessed by patrons of the sport in the Southern jrovAce. Proceedings will commence with the PRELIMINARY HANDICAP Of £300; li miles; 3.34 limit.
Nelson Boy will appeal most of the front trio, with Sea Queen and Sarsaparilla the pick of the next line. Great Amazon has been showing fine winning form during the last two months, and her run may continue. Herbilwyn is a solid trotter, and Real ti e Great usually goes better from the back. GREAT AMAZON will no doubt be first choice, with good support for SEA QUEEN and NELSON BOY. Th© next item to come up for consideration will be the FEND ALTON HANDICAP Of £300; 1 mile (saddle); 2.15 limit.
Some smart saddle merchants are on the limit in this heat, and Queen’s General is one that only requires to begin at the signal to keep the rest busy. Kotuku Jack and King Pointer are both capable of keeping those further back behind them till the post is reached. Bingen Lad and General Bingen are a likely pair, and Pan Yan is now in great form. Jean McElwyn is a little beauty in saddle. KING POINTER may be the elect of bekers, with plenty of friends for PAN YAN and QUEEN’S GENERAL. The saddle exponents out of the way, the classy two-milers will parade for the EASTER HANDICAP Of £1,000; 2 miles; 4.30 limit.
The limit brigade appears to be held safe by Taurekareka, who lias shown a fine return to form of late, and that great little pacer Author Jinks should also account for the front-rankers. Logan Park will find plenty of support, and the consistent Machine Gun will be most in demand of the next line. Black Admiral had hard luck in this event last year, losing by a, narrow margin, and may go one better this time. Queen’s Own is in rare fettle. Dalnaliine will perhaps be the toughest of those further back, but when it comes to making a selection the public may want AUTHOR JINKS, LOGAN PARK, TAUREKAREKA. The next lot to be harnessed up will be those engaged in the EXPRESS HANDICAP
A useful team will make things interesting for speculators, but Great Earl’s form at New Brighton will encourage the public to be with him. Key Logan was in the boom at Wellington, but failed, while Epigram is showing signs of staying on. King Pointer has a previous engagement, but Daphne de Oro will be a solid proposition, with William the Great and Billy Sea also in the picture. There promises to be good money for GREAT EARL, DAPHNE DE ORO and BILLY SEA.
The pure-gaited contingent will have the next claim in the
Swiftbine is in winning vein, and should do best of the front lot, although Petroleuse is sure to be troublesome. Frisco Beau has come solid and will be on hand, and Cannonball, if he keeps to the even gait, will take a lot of settling. Duke Bingen has good form to recommend him, and two classy mares in Native Star and Elzear will keep the field busy all the way. DUKE BINGEN, SWIFTBINE and NATIVE STAR will receive solid support. The next item on the programme is the BELFAST HANDICAP
A big field be seen out in this event, with some‘smart ones on the front line. Golden Sun may do best of this lot, but Asset is a smart filly.
La Sonette is more than useful, and Lady Matchlight looks the pick of tlm team on the next mark. Arran Chief has staged a come-back, and should be able to go on with the game, and Jackie Audubon is always a thorn in the side of his opponents. The mostfancied trio may be ARRAN GOLDEN SUN and LADY MATCHLIGHT. Another large field will- parade for the WILKIN HANDICAP Of £350; 2 miles; 4.42 limit.
Mate o’ Mine and Kreisler are a likely pair off the end, but there is , some tough stock on the next peg, in- | eluding Lady Matchlight and Harvest Child, and Hector’s Own is a big possibility. High Jinks should be at home ; in this society, and Sarella will also < find things to her liking. Quality oniy requires to be at. her best to add excitement to the contest, and Jolly Pet ! has Wellington form to recommend « him. SARELLA will probably be the elect of speculators, with good rapport for HARVEST CHILD and KREISLER. The curtain will be lowered on the | day’s entertainment with the contest, for the FLYING HANDICAP
Only a dozen colour the card, but it should nevertheless prove a great race. Kotuku Jack is one on the front to command respect, and Trimmer will have a host of admirers. Logan Chief has threatened to get his punch back, and St. Maura and Fight ; Ever are a great pair over this distance. Logan Park is handily placed and Great Hope must not be left out j of the final reckoning. TRIMMER will receive big support, with a demand for LOGAN PARK and FIGHT EVER.
Has Yet to Win Easter There is no doubt as to the riding ability of Roy Reed, and he has won almost every important race in the North Island. Up to the present the Auckland Easter Handicap has eluded him. but he stands a very good chance of getting home first on this occasion. His mount is to be Joy King, upon which ho finished second in the Easter Handicap last year.
