DANCE AT ROTORUA
AMBULANCE CERTIFICATES PRESENTED ! A successful dance and "five hun- | dred' 5 tournament, organised by the i committee of the Rotorua branch of ! the St. John Ambulance Association, j for the purpose of presenting certifi- ! cates obtained in the recent examinaI lions, was held in the Peerless Hall on j Friday. The Mayor, Mr. McDowell, spoke of the urgent need for a division of the brigade to be formed in Rotorua, and he urged those present to learn something of first-aid. The Mayoress presented a medallion to Mr. R. H. Sparks, and certificates to the following: Messrs. S. A. Stainton. I, Middleton, H. Aubertin, R. Ewing, Mesdames M. Bridle, Young, Misses Maisie Herrick and Edna Henderson. Dancing and competitions were held. A spot waltz was won by Miss Nuttall and Mr. Fahsenfeld, and a Monte Carlo dance by Miss Ellis and Mr. Joyce. The winners of the card tournament were as follow; Mrs. Carnachan and Mr. Courtney 1, Mrs. Jackson and Mr. Simpson 2, Mrs. Matheson and Mr. Smith consolation prize. Among those present were: Mrs. McDowell, gowned in black georgette and lace. Mrs. R. H. Sparks, hyacinth blue crepe de chine. Mrs. S. A. Stainton, powder blue silk lace and' georgette over satin slip. Mrs, K. A. Planks, jade green lace and georgette, with diamante trimming. Mrs. D. Steele, black satin crepe frock. Miss Carnachan, apricot georgette, with heavy black beading. Miss Camming, pale mauve crepe de chine and lace. Miss P. Phipps, lavender georgette f 1 Mrs Wain, powder blue crepe de chine. Miss V. Wright, flame crepe de chine, with gold embroideiy. Miss Jean Hockley, pale pink georgette j St. Clair, apricot satin crepe fr< Miss R. Mackinder, black silk marocain. DANCE PARTY On Saturday evening, Mrs. RussellWood gave a dance party at her borne in Mount S-treet, in celebration of the birthday of her son. The rooms were gaily decorated with streamers, lanterns and many jazz novelties, and during the evening Miss Betty Russell, who recently arrived from England, gave exhibitions of the latest dances. , An amusing interlude was provided by Miss Enid Hoskins, Miss Audrey Perry and Mr. W. Russell-Wood. Mrs. Russell-Wood wore a becoming goWdi! black panne velvet with a rose and silver posy. The guests were: — . . , Miss X. Ormond, wearing a frock of beige georgette and lace. Miss Audrey Perry, in black georgette, • heavily beaded in Oriental shades. Miss Asher, jade taffeta and lace. Miss -E. Miss Xina Scott, jade green frock of taffetas. Miss Wynne Gillespie, rose du Barri georgette frock.
