APPEAL FOR FUNDS
SWIMMERS FOR OLYMPIC GAMES With tho idea of assisting the funds now being raised to send the three New Zealand swimmers, Misses 33. Stockley (Auckland), K. Miller (Otago) and D. P. Lindsay (Christchurch) to the Olympic Games, the Auckland Swimming Centre decided at its meeting last evening to ask the City Council to refund the £5 baths fee charged for the recent Olympic carnival, as a contribution. It was also decided to approach the three newspapers in Auckland for contributions. The Parnell Club forwarded 10s toward the funds. “The swimmers knew beforehand that there were no prizes, and that they had to pay for admission,” said the chairman, Mr. J. Enwright, when moving that a vote of thanks be accorded all competitors in the Olympic gala. The motion included the officials, too, all of whom were stated to have acted splendidly. Mr. A. E. Edenborough, treasurer, reported that a sum of about £35 or £4O would be forthcoming from the carnival held last week.
