Sly Grog-Trade

DALMATIANS FINED £2O EACH ST. PATRICK’S DAY OBSERVED The police, who are making a determined effort to suppress sly grog-trading in the city, had two offenders before the court to-day, each being fined £.20. r J''HE accused were two Dalmatians, Mark Roglich and John Marion Jelicich, who were each charged with selling liquor without being licensed. They were both boardinghousekeepers, and their counsel, Mr. J. J. Sullivan, suggested that the liquor was kept for the convenience of boarders. Sub-Inspector McCarthy said that in both cases there had been a deliberate setting to supply liquor. The men had made a practice of trading to such an extent that it had become a scandal. It was difficult lor the police to obtain evidence of sales, and heavy penalties were therefore sought. It was stated that 18 dozen bottles of beer were brought to Jelicich’s house on St. Patrick’s day.
