FRENCHMEN FILL AUSTRALIAN COFFERS
£20,000 IN GROSS TAKINGS To date the total gross takings for the French tennis team's tour amount to £ 19,200. To this has to be added the takings for # the exhibition matches to be played in Perth this week, which will bring the total to £20,000 easily, states the Sydney “Guardian.” The maximum guarantee to the French governing body by Australia was £3,500, leaving the Australian Council on velvet with £16,500, less expenses. The expenses will be heavy, as in addition to amusement tax, the temporary stand erected in Sydney cost £1,400, and special seating accommodation was also provided in Melbourne and Adelaide. These, together with players’ expenses and incidentals, will probably raise the expenses bill to a total of £3,000. The Australian governing body will, therefore, show a clear profit of at least £13,000. Tho proportion of this amount to be allocated to the various State associations will be decided at a subsequent meeting of the Australian Council. New South Wales will benefit most through the Frenchmen’s visit, as it will receive approximately £ 800 from tho Australian championships, in addition to a proportion of the profits in the test matches.
