AUSTRALIANS AT NEW PLYMOUTH TARANAKI BATTING Press Association. NEW PLYMOUTH, To-day. The Australia v. Taranaki cricket match commenced at 11.30 this morning in line weather. The wicket was in good order and the outfield fast. Oldfield and Blackie stood down. Richardson won the toss and put Taranaki in. B. B. Wilson and Nasmith, opened to Morton and MeNamee. The batsmen opened carefully, and at noon the score was 21 for no wickets (Wilson 12, Nasmith 7). WILSON’S SPLENDID STAND With the score at 2G, a double bowling change was made, Grimmett and Oxenham coming on. The change was effective and the wickets fell rapidly. Wilson alone faced the bowling with any confidence. He scored freely off all the bowlers. At 1.15 p.m., when the luncheon adjournment was taken, the score was 126 for six wickets. Mills and James are unavailable for both tests, but Dempster is available for the first test and Blunt for the second test only. Among others unable to play, if required in the Auckland test, are Worker, McMullin and Kingston.
