Previously the journey from Te Puke occupied two. and sometimes three jays, but now the train over the new section of line covers the distance in a day and delivers the stock in better condition and at a greatly reduced cost. One of the first consignments to (Onie on this line from the Bay of Plenty district comprises 15 trucks of cattle, which will be absorbed in the local market or sent to Westfield for to-morrow's sale. A consignment of lambs to be sent to Westfield works for export will arrive in Auckland this evening. As a result of the opening of the new line the farmers in the Bay of Plenty will benefit not only by convenience in the carriage of stock, but also in the expeditious and cheap transport of manure, coal, fruit and grain.
