PETROL TAX ALLOCATION
METHODS OUTLINED “SATISFACTORY PROPOSAL” Press Association. DUNEDIN, To-day. The statement is made by Mr. Ansell, president of the South Island Motor Union, that, after negotiations with the Prime Minister on the question of the allocation of the petrol tax revenue, the latter has undertaken that as soon as the recommendations of the Highways Board, regarding -secondary roads, came to hand, the Government would ascertain the average maintenance cost a mile of road, and before the roads were gazetted would endeavour to see that the allocation of the petrol tax would approximately conform with the number of vehicles in each island. Mr. Ansell said that the decision of the Prime Minister to remove the possibility of injustice must be regarded as extremely satisfactory.
