EARLY WARKWORTH SETTLER
DEATH OF MR. HENRY CIVIL A well-known settler of the Wa.rkworth district, Mr. Henry Civil, died yesterday at his home, Grey Lynn, at the age of 82. Mr. Civil was born in Hexham, in the North of England, and after serving his apprenticeship to a carpenter became one of the leading builders in his native town. Arriving in Auckland in ISS2 with his wife and seven young sons Mr. Civil lived in the city for five years, but then purchased land at Matakana, where the family lived M2 miles inland. Mr. and Mrs. Civil retired to Warkworth, but after the death of his wife Mr. Civil lived in Grey Lynn. He served on several school committees and until recently was an enthusiastic bowler. Some years ago he married again. Mr. Civil is survived by his wife, seven sons, Messrs. J. W. Civil, Te Awamutu: G. T. Civil, Warkworth; E. Civil, Otaliuhu; F. Civil, Papakura; H. H. Civil. Papakura; L. S. Civil, Pukekohe, and A. A. Civil, Papatoetoe; and two daughters, Mrs. J. T. Morris, of Grey Lynn, and Mrs. F. Woodcock, of Kaipara Flats. There are 38 grandchildren and a number of great-grand-children.
