ELLERSLIE SPRINTS FEW HORSES IN EVIDENCE Very few horses put in an appearance at Ellerslie this morning, consequently not a great deal of fast work was carried out. A bitter wind was in evidence throughout operations, j with the track in excellent order after the rain. The course proper (two • trestles out) was popular with trainers, | while No. 3 grass was also made use i of. COURSE PROPER Parfait Amour appeared to be going better than Valsier at the end of half a mile, cut out in 52 1-5. Salamander finished several lengths ahead of Scaramouche over five furlongs, but was not timed. White Light was accompanied by Prince Papa in a spin over five furlongs, run in 1.10 1-5. Both moved well, but it was apparent that they i could have done better. * Prince Papa has only been in commission a few j weeks, and this was his first serious j effort over a number of furlongs. ! .Sleepy Sol and Restaurant were j associated in a bout over six furlongs, j The time. 1.23, was not good, but they got through their task encouragingly. Semi-circle and Segment were asked to go a mile together. The first-named took the lead after the first furlong, and went on to finish up the seven in 1.46 1-5. Segment was very erratic, ! and swerved to the outside on a num- j ber of occasions.
Archeno and Welkne were restricted to a half-mile sprint in 54 3-5 They were practically on terms at the finish.
Princess Ronnie was given a working gallop over six furlongs, cutting out that distance in 1.19 3-5. She is weighted at 7. in the Franklin Cup, in which she may run a creditable race if she can only be prevailed upon to do her best. No. 3 GRASS Sir Archie moved over seven furlongs, the last six taking 1.19 4-5. He was doing it easy at the finish, and is in good fettle just now. Bannock and Merry Light took 56 1-5 to run half a mile, with neither extended. Ballinagard got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7 2-5. The first couple of furlongs were covered at a very slow pace.
