MARKETS IN CANTERBURY
Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. Little change has taken "place in values since the week-end report. The wheat market is very dull and little busines sis passing at the moment. A few lines have been bought at 5s 7d on trucks, but farmers are disinclined to trade at less than 5s Bd. Millers on their part are not very anxious to buy even at the lower figures. Oats are yielding well. Algerians have slipped back to 2s B£d, f.0.b., s.i. The market for Gartons is practically unchanged, though there is a suggestion of a weakening. A Gartons are quoted at 3s Id to 3s lid on trucks. Some “free” barley has been sold at 4s on trucks. It is understood that maltsters are holding substantial carry-over stocks and, with their pres - ent season’s contract commitments, it is unlikely that “free” barley will be required until well, on in the season. Perennial ryegrass and cocksfoot are firm, there being a good demand for the former at 3s to 3s 3d a bushel on trucks. The seed so far offered this year is light. The rains in South Canterbury have clarified the potato position and have tended to weaken prices. Previously there was a good deal of uncertainty as to the effect the dry spell would have on yields, but the rain has improved prospects to the extent that 1 this uncertainty has disappeared. Business has been done at £5 a ton, f.0.b., s.i., for main delivery, a shade of easing on previous values. TAUMARUNUI STOCK SALE (From Our Own Correspondent) TAUMARUNUI, Tuesday. Sheep sold exceptionally well at the Taumarunui stock sale to-day, there being a good yarding. Two-tooth ewes from “Echolands, Ltd.,” reached 31s 6d, and other sorts sold at good figure#. The prices were:— Sheep.—Fat wethers, 265; fat ewes, 16s Id; two-tooth wethers, 20s to 225; mixed sex two-tooth wethers, 21s 4d; four and six-tooth wethers, 21s; old ewes, 12s to 13s 9d; two-tooth ewes, 26s 6d, 2Ss to 31s 6d; lambs, 9s, 10s, 15s, 16s to 17s.
