MINING NEWS WAI OTA Hl.—The report of the manager of the Waiotahi Company for the week ending February 11 is given below: “The drive hillward for the WaiotahiCambria reef has been advanced nine feet for the week, leaving a further eight feet to reach the estimated position of the reef. The country rock continues to be a mild grey andesite..” KURANUI. —The manager reports: “The croscut from the surface has been advanced a further 30ft for the week, making a total of'ls3ft from the starting point. There has been a change in the country for the last few feet with a fair amount of water making from the face. Have not been able to get into the workings in the battery level yet. I tried to get in this morning, but could not get past the Shotover croscut on account of gas.” ALBURN I A.—The manager reports: “The drive on the dropper was extended from 152 ft to 158 ft. In the early part of this week the reef jumped into the hanging wall. We advanced the drive on the footwall, this accounting for the small footage for the week. We have now picked up the reef, which shows ;i width of about 15in of most favourable quartz, and continues to show a fair amount of silica. The drive seaward on the ‘Sons of Freedom’ reef has been advanced from 137 ft to 14Sft. The reef continues to maintain its size about 2ft 6in in width and in the last breakingdown showed some nice coarse colours of gold on the hanging wall portion, and prospects generally continue to be most favourable.” OHINEMURI.—The superintendent reports: "The new power plant was started to-day (February 14). Mining operations at four points are now in progress. The drive on “Camoola” reef north of the Silverstream crosscut has been resumed. This work had been suspended at 72Sft pending provision of power. The present face is in sulphide ore of good grade. In order to test the width and value of the reef in the section south of the Silverstream crosscut, contracts have been let for three crosscuts covering approximately 500 ft on the line of the reef. The last of these is 290 ft north of the chute of ore opened up in the south section.”
