SERIOUS BIGAMY CASE

PRISONER SENTENCED TWO YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT “Bigamy may be a serious offence and it may be trivial. In your ease it is serious. You will be sentenced to imprisoment for two years.” With these few words Mr. Justice Reed disposed o< Francis William Smeetman this morning, sit the Auckland Supreme Court. Smeetman deserted his wife and three children, and according to the Bench he then went South and married a young girl and ruined her life. He was sent from Hamilton for sentence.
