PASSING STANDING BUSES CORONER’S CRITICISM “I will recommend that the attention of the borough council authorities be called to this accident. S.M.. sitting A as coroner at the inquest yesterday afternoon on Freda Jean Mackie. aged 10 years, who was knocked down by a bus and killed at Devonport on January 17. The girl, who, with her parents, was visiting friends at Devonport. com -s from Herriesville. Te Aroha. She alighted from a bus at Fraser Road ahead of her parents, and ran in front of the vehicle. A Blue Bell bus trav elling in the same direction struck the child, although the driver. E: . Cleal. aged 22. swerved as soon •-* saw her. The rear wheel passed over the girl. She died a few mir.ui a later. It was stated in evidence that a bus coming from behind another bus never stopped, and this prompted th»* coroner to remark that this was most dangerous, and would have to be stopped. The public had to be protected. A verdict was returned that t lie girl died as. a result of injuries received through being accidentally knocked down by a bus.
