RIALTO AND REGENT, EPSOM

“PAINTING THE TOWN” “Painting the Town,” now at the Rialto and Regent Theatres, is a rollicking farce cbmedy of a small town hick who “crashes” Broadway with a score of trick inventions. In the role of bucolic wise-cracker, Glenn Tryon is almost the whole show and establishes himself as one of the most promising comedians in the business. William James Craft, the director, also wins a new standing in the industry by reason of the picture, say those who have seen it. The story, which in no small way contributes to til© laughmaking value of the picture, was written by Harry O. Hoyt. Members of the all star cast, in addition to Patsy Ruth Miller and Glenn Tryon, include George Fawcett, Charles ' Gerrard, Sidney Bracy. Monte Collins and Max Ascher. “The Blue Danube,” starring Lya Mara, is the second feature on an excellent programme. “THE ADORABLE OUTCAST” WALTER LONG’S ROLE When one considers the type of role that Walter Long has been featured in “The Adorable Outcast,” it seems ironic that his people had once desired him to take up law. Indeed, he was educated to that end and having done his best to appease their wishes, for one year’s hard study, he succumbed to the lure of the stage and appeared in many history-making New York stage successes. Some years later, when he entered the movies, he quickly made a name for himself in the branch of movie villainy that has made him famous. “My family never forgave me,” said this clever artist while in Sydney, “and when they heard that I had appeared on the screen they became almost resigned till they heard that I was a professional villain . . . that settled me in their eyes.” Long’s heavy features and muscular build have fitted him ideally for the heavier roles and in Norman Dawn’s UnionMaster world production he offers one I of his best characterisations, in that jof the rough island wanderer.
