“MOCKERY” In “Mockery,” Lon Chaney’s new film now being shown at the Grand Theatre, Chaney believes the ideal

combination o f the two devices was arrived at by Benjamin Christensen, the* famous Danish director and former stage star. All direct narration is carefully worked out in direct action, but weird effects are used to heighten suspense and

mystery in a striking manner. This new story is a vivid drama of the Russian revolution with Chaney in the role of a strange peasant hurled into the struggle. A notable cast appears. Barbara Bedford is seen as th© heroine and Ricardo Cortez, well known leading man, as the young officer whom she loves. Mack Swam, Emily Fitzroy, Charles Puffy, and other well-known players are seen in important roles. Christensen, the director of the strange fantasy of terror, is noted for “The Devil’s Circus” and other famous screen productions. Marjorie Beebe Fox Films’ newlydiscovered comedienne, has won the featured role in “Nutty But Nice.” Miss Beebe recently finished an important comedy role in "Very Confidential.” James Hall will play the lead opposite Esther Ralston in her next Paramount picture, “The Jazz Orphan.” Frank Tuttle is the director. Doris Anderson, who wrote the original of this piece, has just been signed to a long term contract with Paramount. Now in production at Columbia Studios for Master Pictures’ release is “The College Hero.” Pauline Caron. Robert Agnew, Rex Lease, Ben Turpin, and Joan Standing comprise the cast, under the direction of William Lang.
