MANUREWA TOWN BOARD

WATER SUPPLY DEPUTATION The Manurewa Town Board met last eevning, Mr. A. C. A. Sexton, chairman, presiding. The clerk reported that 8,765 vehicles passed over Wiri bridge during a period of seven d^ys. The foreman reported the completion of the levelling of Jellicoe Park. A request for a donation toward the cost of installing wireless sets in the hospital was refused, the members expressing the opinion that any luxuries should be paid for out of the levy. The Manukau County Council advised that it had a suitable site for a pound close to the Takanini stream. The board approved of the site and asked for particulars regarding cost and management. A claim, was received from Mrs. Blampied for £579 recompense for alleged damage to her property on account of the lowering of the Great South Road. It was decided that the board accept liability for replacing the fence, but refuse to accept any liability regarding the retaining wall, or carriage-way.

A deputation was received from the Manurewa Bow'ling Club asking the board to sink a bore on the bowling green property, on a site selected by reputable diviners. Mention was made of the present shortage of water in the district and the damage to the greens. It was decided that an engine be installed at the bore in the reserve for the purpose of testing the flow, and it was further decided to leave the sinking of the new bore in the hands of the parks committee, with power to act. A deputation was received from residents of Coxhead’s Road, asking that the road be put in order, and it was decided to instruct the engineer to report on the request. The clerk reported that the cost of laying the bitumen shoulders along the concrete through the town area was £423 8s Bd. Ic was decided to lay the remaining portion to the corner of Alfriston Road when the foundations were satisfactory. Accounts totalling £390 15s 7d were passed for payment. Ratepayers in Station Road are to be notified that the blackberry bushes bounding their property must be cleared at once.
