WHANGAREI HOSPITAL
FRIENDLY SOCIETY CONCESSIONS Concessions to friendly societies were again debated by the Whangarei Hospital Board yesterday. The societies offered to guarantee payments of fees. The board suggested replacing the existing arrangements on 60-40 basis by a 55-45 one, provided 75 per cent, of the lodge members were included in the benefit lists. The Druids were unwilling unless there was a 5050 basis. Other lodges objected to the percentage conditions. Hikurangi and Wilson's Collieries Miners’ Medical Society was willing to accept the terms. Notice of motion was given to deal with the miners’ organisation separately. Owing to Dr. T. A. Hunter, director of dental hygiene, not favouring the inclusion of country schools among those served by the Whangarei school dental clinic, the board decided to seek the miners’ sanction to a nurse attending country children one day a week, taking the schools in rotation.
