GOLDEN WEDDING
MR. AND MHS., B. PATON OLD HOWICK RESIDENTS Mr* and Mrs. Benjamin Paton, of Springburn Farm, Howick,' who were married in All Saints’ Church, Howick, by the Rev. R. A. Hall, when both were aged 21, celebrated their golden wedding to-day. Mr. Paton was the only son pf the late Mr. John Paton, one of the earliest settlers in the Howick district and Mrs. Paton was the second daughter of the late Mr. George Wagstaff, another pioneer settler. They were children together and attended Hill’s private school, the first educational institution in the district. Mr. Paton, who was a carpenter by trade, retired only four months ago. He has leased the farm, where He is living quietly with his wife. There are five sons and four daughters all of whom are living, and there are 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. and Mrs. Paton held an informal celebration on Saturday evening. Both are well known and respected in Howick and have received congratulations from many quarters.
