FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION LACKS FUNDS LOSS ON CANADIAN TOUR (From Our Own Correspondent) WELLINGTON. Wednesday. Financially the N.Z. Football Association is in very awkward circumstances. According to a report submitted to the annual meeting of the association, its funds are exhausted. The loss on the Canadian tour, Football Association competition, and Australian boys’ tour have absorbed the £2,000 obtained from the art union two years ago. The straitened finances will probably interfere with next season’s programme. There was a full attendance of members of the council, Mr. A. Varney presiding. A statement submitted by Mr. L. O. Atkinson showed that there was a loss of £4OO on the Football Association competition, a deficiency of £75 on the tour of the Australian schoolboy team, and on the tour of the Canadian team of £I,OOO. Other payments include school grants and balls £B3, expenses Of annual meeting £23 15s 6d, shares in New Zealand Cricket, Ltd., £SO, honoraria, 1926, £SO, postages, salaries, interest, etc., £2ll. When all amounts owing to the association are realised its funds will be practically nil. There may be something to come from New Zealand Cricket, Ltd. When the Canadian tour was embarked upon it was estimated that the expenditure would be £6,200 and the receipts £B,OOO. The expenditure actually came within £SO of the estimate, but owing to the wet weather experienced during the tour the revenue fell far below expectations. The council still hopes to send a team of boys to Australia in 1928, as originally planned, but it is dependent upon funds being raised. The visit of an Australian team to New Zealand is also subject to uncertainty. A meeting of the New Zealand Council is to be held about the middle of January to devise ways and means of raising further funds for the use of the council.
