THE TOY MARKET

BRITISH GOOD.S DISPLAYED WONDERFUL NOVELTIES (From Our Resident Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The largest and most representative display of British sports goods, toys and games ever arranged will be seen at the White City, London, in February when the British Industries Fair opens. The sections of the display will include every kind of sporting equipment and almost every toy that British manufacturers make, and the two sections, sport and toys, will be adjoining, while close to them will be a display of perambulators. The only connection between these necessary and useful articles, however, and the other two sections of the fair mentioned, is the fact that their manufacture is closely allied with many of the stronger and larger types of toys. Something more deadly will be the exhibition of the finest sporting guns the manufacturers of the Old Country can produce. It was said of the sports goods section of the fair last February that it showed that Britain led the world in this industry in standard of quality and workmanship, but many improvements will be seen next year and the display generally will be much larger. The toy and games industries of Great Britain have reached huge dimensions and have made strides since the war. In the making of strong toys, motor-cars, toy cycles and scooters, for example, the British factories are supreme, and indications already point to the prospect of good business from overseas.

Among other exhibits in this section of the fair will be seen a model motorcar for which a large firm specially engaged a skilled automobile designer of repute solely to design a three-speed gear-box and a clutch to operate in the toy motor! Another make of toy car has reinforced cord balloon tyres fitted on well-based rims, just like a big motor-car, and electric lighting, brakes and instrument board, completely fitted* are also provided.
