MANUREWA SCHOOL
PRIZES AND CHRISTMAS PUDDING The primer children of the Manurewa Public School were treated to a generous helping of Christmas pudding at the school yesterday morning, and in the afternoon two Christmas trees, heavily laden with things that bring joy to young hearts, were the outstanding feature of the day. Each child received a gift from dear old Santa Claus. The arrangements were in the hands of Misses Jeffs and Noble. During the afternoon, the prizes won by the scholars for general work during the year were presented. The principal prizes were won by Jack Murray and Elsie Cox. The special prizes were donated by Mr. W. Gillies. The headmaster reported that 98 per cent, of the Sixth Standard scholars obtained proficiency certificates, which is considered quite satisfactory, as the epidemic of measles, mumps and whooping cough seriously affected the attendance during the year. It is proposed to erect a swimming pool 40 x 20 in the school grounds during the ensuing year.
