NAVAL RESERVISTS PARADE AT DEVONPORT
INSPECTION BY COMMODORE Three companies of the *‘D” Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve paraded for inspection and competitions at Devonport dockyard on Saturday afternoon. A fine display resulted, and there was soon an assembly of spectators on land and sea. The division was inspected by Commodor© J. T. C. P. Swabey, commodore commanding the New Zealand Division of the Royal Navy, and the parade was the last for this year. Moving with smartness and precision gained only by long and arduous training, the division paraded in squad and rifle drill and a march past before Commodore Swabey, and afterwards took part in signalling, gunnery and finally a tug of war. A sham battle was also staged. The division parade was under Lieu-tenant-Commander C. V. Connolly, R.N.V.R., while Lieutenant-Comman-der Nisbet had charge of A Company, Lieutenant Edney commanded B Company and Lieutenant-Commander Alderton controlled C Company. Judges in the events were: March past, Commander Bradley; squad and rifle drill, Lieutenant-Commander Longsdon; gunnery, Lieutenant-Com-mander Lingard; signalling, Lieutenant Boyle; tug-of-war, Lieutenant Addis. The march past was won by C Company, while A Company won the squad and rifle drill and the signalling contest. The No. 2 team of C Company carried off the gunnery prize. The cup for general efficiency was presented to A Company, with 426 marks. C Company was second, with a score of 412, and B Company third, with 404.
Commodore Swabey, in addressing the division afterwards, remarked on the general improvement shown, and congratulated the volunteers on their efficiency and keenness, which reflected credit not only on the men but on their officers.
