NEW REGENT

“MAN POWER” Clarence Badger has another hit marked down to his credit. The man responsible for such knockout pictures as “It,” “A Kiss in a Taxi,” “The Campus Flirt,” and “Senorita,” has completed a Richard Dix comedy - drama for Paramount. "Man Power,” which reaches the New Regent Theatre to-morrow. In it, Dix enacts a former Tank Corps officer, who settles down in a strange town only because he finds himself mysteriously attracted to Mary Brian. He soon discovers why Mary’s father’s tractor factory i.-., a failure, and the rest can be guessed. At least, almost everything else car. bo guessed. The picture’s big kick comes on Christmas Eve, when j dam in the hills about Mary’s home is about to burst its concrete walls! Of course, Richard comes to the rescue, but how he does it, is said to provide one of the most thrillingscenes movie audiences have ever seen. Wallace and Gennett, novelty dancers, will appear on the stage at the New Regent to-day. Opening with some clever simultaneous dancing they will give 10 minutes of very excellent terpsichorean entertainment, their unique dancing up and down a double-sided staircase being very attractive. An item in the current programme which will probably receive more than the usual attention is an interesting film entitled “The Romantic North Shore” being an enlightening and prettily descriptive picture of those boroughs on the North Shore, Tukapuna, Cheltenham, Birkenhead, etc. The supporting programme includes a screamingly funny comedy entitled “Shore Shy,” featuring Billy Dooley and an interesting budget of topical events. Eddie Horton has selected for his items this week a “No, No, Nanette” selection and “Tickling the Ivories.” The musical accompaniment by the Regent Operatic Orchestra under the baton of Mr. Maurice Guttridge is well up to their usual high standard. The attention of country visitors particularly is drawn to the fact that week-end bookings at the Regent are always heavy. It is advisable to reserve in advance. Box plans are at the theatre, 46-888.
