BIG PARAMOUNT FILM Twenty-five setting, ranging from the slums to the fashionable shopping dis;rlct of a great city, were required for die filming of Paramount’s "Underworld.” Ben Heeht’s powerful story of modern crime. j The majority of the sets were built I at Paramount studio in Hollywood, but it was also necessary to use actual buildings, Including a court house, police station, bank, railroad station, coliseum, dance hall, cafe and jail. A complete street, with scores of shops, was required for one sequence. The shop flouts, two blocks long, were built on part of the twenty-six acres comprising the studio grounds. The picture was directed by Josef von Sternberg, and the cast includes George Bancroft. Evelyn Brent. Clive Brook, Larry Semon and Fred Kohler.
