SOVIET TAKES THE CREDIT
POLISH AGREEMENT LITVINOFF AND THE LEAGUE By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. The Riga correspondent of “The Times” states that a Soviet manifesto says the League’s role in the removal of the Polish-Lithuanian state ol war was merely accidental. The combined action of the Soviet and Germany compelled the League to arrange a settlement. Success was largely due to M. Litvinotf. Within a few days he accomplished what the League had hopelessly attempted for, seven years. • In commenting on the settlement of the dispute between Poland and Lithuania the “Daily News” says: “Thanks to the League of Nations, a dangerous crisis in Eastern Europe has been reduced to manageable dimensions, and the threat of war definitely averted. With forbearance on both sides, there is no reason why Poland and Lithuania should not now resume decent neighbourly relations.” The “Morning Post” says: “The Geneva agreement will he welcomed throughout Europe. To find a solution of the question at issue between Poland and Lithuania needs time and patience. The chief value cf the agreement is that it affords time for reasonable deliberations. —A. and N.Z.-
