WELCOME RAlN.—Further splendid rains are falling over most parts of the State of New South Wales. — A. and N.Z. TT OURS OF WORK.—The Full Court of the Commonwealth .Arbitration Court has refused the application by the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners for a reduction of the standard hours from 44 to 40 a week. —A. and N.Z. BRITAIN AND JAPAN. —Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr. G. T. Lockcr-Lampson, Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, said neither Britain nor Japan in any way had suggested returning to the Anglo-Japanese alliance.—A. and N.Z.-Sun. NEW COMMISSIONERS. The
Premier, Mr. T. R. Bavin, announces that the new Industrial Commission will consist of Mr. A. B. Piddington, chairman, Messrs. K. W. Street, and M. E. Cantor. Both the latter are also barristers. —A. and N.Z. * * * PAPERS BANNED.—In consequence of alleged attacks on King Alexander ;:nd on the people of Yugoslavia the Minister of the Interior, M. Maksimovitch, has banned the Italian newspapers “Giornale dTtalia," “II Secolo,” 'll Popolo,” and “II Lavoro d’ltalia.”— A. and N.Z.-Sun. * * * GERMAN BUDGET. —The Budget to b© submitted in the Reichstag is estimated to balance at £467,800.000. The expenditure includes £61,370,000 for reparations. £16,300,000 for the Army, and £5,380,000 for the Navy. Of the latter amount £410.000 is the first instalment toward a battleship to cost £4,000,000. —A. and N.Z.-Sun. TROOPS FROM BRITAIN. —Details have been issued of the Supplementary Army Estimates, which show that £3,090.000 is required for the excess cost of additional troops in China, to March 31. 1928. The heaviest item is sea conveyance of troops, which ;imounts to £975,000. A. and N.Z.Sun - FATAL PLANE CRASH. —An airplane, which was flying to Fort Wayne, Indiana, from Detroit, crashed to the earth, and the pilot, Captain John Zeigler. was killed. Mr. C- J. Parker, a millionaire manufacturer, and two other passengers were injured. Motor trouble caused the pilot to attempt a forced landing, but the plane overturned and was demolished. —Sun. WORKLESS HOST. The secretary of the Trades Hall Council states that the unemployment position in Melbourne is the worst for 25 years. Last month there were 10.075 trades unionists unemployed.
